This occasion is not just a birthday celebration, but an opportunity to pay homage to the inspiring life journey of a seeker, built on penance, sacrifice, knowledge, devotion to the Guru, and public service.
Swami Sadanand Saraswati Maharaj was born on August 13, 1958, in Bargi village of Narsinghpur district, Madhya Pradesh. His father was Ayurvedaratna Pandit Shri Vidyadhar Awasthi and his mother was Smt. Mankunwar Devi.
From childhood, he had a deep interest in religion, spirituality, and knowledge, which shaped his future path.
His early upbringing led him towards the study of Sanskrit and scriptures. He received his education at Jyotirishwar Rishikul Sanskrit Vidyalaya in Jhoteshwar, Narsinghpur.
It was during this time that he came into the proximity of the late Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati Maharaj, which proved to be a significant turning point in his life.
To quench his thirst for knowledge, he reached Kashi, considered the land of scholars.
Here, he undertook a deep study of various scriptures including Grammar, Logic, Vedas, Vedanta, and Literature. Along with scriptural studies, spiritual practice, discipline, and detachment became an integral part of his personality.
Gurudev Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati Maharaj quickly recognized his talent, humility, discipline, and devotion to the Guru.
The Guru's command became his life's guide, and he was entrusted with important religious and social responsibilities from time to time.
Two years were extremely significant in Maharajshri's life, giving a new direction to his spiritual journey.
In the year 1977, on the auspicious occasion of Prayag Kumbh, Gurudev Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati Maharaj initiated him into Naisthik Brahmacharya. After this, he came to be known as 'Sadanand Brahmachari'.
After a long period of spiritual practice and service to the Guru, he was initiated into Dandsannyas in Kashi on April 15, 2003. With this, he was established in the tradition of ascetics as 'Swami Sadanand Saraswati'.
After becoming an ascetic, religious preaching, preservation of scriptures, promotion of Sanskrit, and social service became the main dimensions of his life. His life journey was not limited to spiritual practice alone.
He prioritized various works related to education, Sanskrit, Gurukuls, cow service, medicine, and social service. Value-based education was imparted to students through Gurukuls.
Through the Shardapeeth Gaushala, cow service and protection of cattle were also made a part of his service and spiritual practice. Meanwhile, eye treatment was provided to the needy through the Shankaracharya Netralaya in Jhoteshwar.
In the works of Swami Sadanand Saraswati Maharaj, the preservation of Sanskrit and the Indian knowledge tradition holds special importance. He emphasized the study, research, and preservation of Vedic and Puranic literature.
In his view, Sanskrit is not just a language, but an important carrier of Indian knowledge, culture, and tradition.
In the year 2022, after the passing of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati Maharaj, the significant responsibility of carrying forward the Guru lineage fell upon Swami Sadanand Saraswati Maharaj.
According to scriptural tradition, his ascension to the seat and grand anointment took place in Dwarka, and he was established as the Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Paschimamnaya Dwarkashardapeeth.
The most prominent feature of Maharajshri's life is his unwavering devotion to his Guru. He did not limit the values received from his Gurudev to personal spiritual practice but gave them a broader form through social service.
Activities such as preaching Vedanta, preserving Sanskrit, developing Gurukuls, and medical services reflect his philanthropic approach.
To honor this life story of penance, sacrifice, and service, the Vardhanti Divas is being organized in Sirohi on August 30.
His journey, which began from a small village in Bargi and reached the position of Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Dwarka, is an inspiring chapter of penance, knowledge, and service.
