Former minister Rajendra Gudha fainted while protesting against the name change of Islampur.
Gudha held a 22-kilometer foot march with villagers to protest.
The village has been named Islampur since 1622 and is recorded as such in all government documents.
MLA Rajendra Bhambhu had recommended changing the name to Shrirampur.
Jhunjhunu | In protest against changing the name of Islampur village, former minister Rajendra Gudha reached the district headquarters on Monday after a foot march of about 22 kilometers with villagers. During the demonstration outside the Collectorate, his health deteriorated due to the intense heat and sun, and he suddenly fainted and fell on the road.
Health Deteriorated During Protest
On Monday, Gudha, along with his supporters and villagers, set out on a foot march from Islampur to the Jhunjhunu Collectorate.
While protesting outside the Collectorate, he suddenly fainted due to the scorching sun and intense heat.
People present at the scene immediately supported him and tried to revive him by splashing water. Drenched in sweat, Gudha flatly refused to go to the hospital.
He accused the administration of not allowing a tent to be set up at the protest site, leaving no arrangement for shade for the protestors.
Gudha said, "When my companions are sitting in the sun, I cannot sit in the shade alone."
There is a proposal to change the name of Islampur village in Jhunjhunu to Shrirampur, which the entire community has been opposing for the last fifteen days.
Local MLA Rajendra Bhambhu had agreed to this proposal and sent a recommendation letter to the Chief Minister.
Following this, the Chief Minister's Office took cognizance and directed the Jhunjhunu Collector to send a full report and feedback on the matter.
The Village's 400-Year-Old History
In a memorandum submitted by the villagers, it was stated that Islampur village was established in the year 1622 AD and has had the same name ever since.
The village has a population of about 16,000, where Hindu and Muslim communities have been living in harmony and brotherhood for decades.
The name Islampur is recorded in all government records such as revenue records, PIN codes, Aadhaar cards, passports, and educational documents.
A delegation had also met several leaders in Jaipur, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, regarding this demand.
The issue of changing Islampur's name has now taken a political turn. While villagers and the former minister are protesting, the administration is acting on the recommendation of the local MLA. It remains to be seen what final decision the government will take on this matter.
