Shreyanka Patil ruled out of Women's T20 World Cup due to injury.
24-year-old Prema Rawat from Uttarakhand gets a place in the team.
Prema has not played any international matches yet.
Rewarded for her stellar performance in domestic cricket and WPL.
Dehradun | Big news has emerged for the Indian team amidst the Women's T20 World Cup 2026. The team's star off-spinner Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to a serious knee injury. In her place, 24-year-old Prema Rawat from Uttarakhand has been included in the squad.
Injury Sustained Against the Netherlands
The Indian team suffered this blow during the match against the Netherlands. Shreyanka Patil was injured while bowling in the sixth over of the match on Wednesday.
She lost her balance and fell badly on the field, resulting in a serious knee injury. The injury was so severe that she had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.
Prema Rawat, who replaced Shreyanka in the team, has not played any international matches so far. However, her performance in domestic cricket and the Women's Premier League (WPL) has been outstanding.
Prema plays cricket for Uttarakhand and is currently in England with the India A team, which has made it easier for her to join the squad.
In the Women's Premier League 2026, Prema impressed everyone with her bowling. She took wickets with an economy rate of less than 6 and an excellent average of 8.
A selection committee member said, "Prema has been rewarded for her consistent good performance. She is a talented player, and we hope she will make the most of this opportunity."
Additionally, she also took 8 wickets for India in the Women's Rising Asia Cup Star Tournament. It remains to be seen how she will fill the void left by Shreyanka.
Amidst this change, the Indian team's performance in the World Cup has been brilliant so far. The team has secured the top spot in the group by winning both of its initial matches.
Australia has also won two matches, but India is in the first position due to a better net run rate. Only two teams from this group will advance to the next round, with India and Australia being the strong contenders.
Team India's next match will be against South Africa on June 21. After that, the team will face Bangladesh on June 25 and Australia on June 28.
A Big Opportunity for Prema
This is a huge opportunity for Prema Rawat. Making it directly into the World Cup team without playing any international matches is like a dream come true for any player. She will have the great responsibility of filling Shreyanka's shoes.
